This showcase home boasts the most magnificent and magical landscape and gardens of any home in San Miguel. Sitting atop a small hill (El Cerrito means "the little hill") just a ten minute walk from San Miguel's central square, the terraced landscape integrates a cornucopia of gardens, fountains, walking paths, seating areas, ponds, pillars, vegetation, and other natural and man-made wonders.

Villa el Cerrito has been featured in various publications, including Phoenix Home & Garden (Jan. 2005), "Mediterranean Design" by Mary Whitesides (Aug. 2006), and Veranda (Nov. 2007).

The terraced landscape integrates a cornucopia of gardens, fountains, walking paths, seating areas, meditation spots, ponds, pillars, vegetation, and other natural and man-made wonders. Perhaps Villa el Cerrito's most exceptional outdoor feature is an acoustically impressive Roman amphitheater where performers, singers, musicians and mariachis can entertain you and your guests late into the night. Other striking elements include a romantic rose-covered gazebo, a Venetian bridge, a "secret garden," a Pecan tree bench, a large adobe wall with a Moroccan mesh window, weeping boulders, and cascading ponds filled with water lilies, papyrus plants, and tropical fish. Lush vegetation abounds, with brilliant purple bougainvillea climbing the stone walls, olive, cypress and fruit trees dotting the many pathways, and elegant flowers and plants sprinkled throughout. The property is encompassed by majestic shooting bamboo to enhance privacy and reduce noise pollution. Conceived by a master New England landscape designer and created by San Miguel's premier landscape architect, Villa el Cerrito's setting is a work of art in itself, and a true luxury to be explored and enjoyed.

The authentic adobe villa was built entirely by hand over a period of five years. Considered the signature work of one of San Miguel's most prominent local architects, Villa el Cerrito masterfully combines an ancient building style with the modern conveniences and amenities expected by today's most discriminating travelers. The interior of Villa el Cerrito was designed by the owners and one of the town's most distinguished interior decorators, and every room received the utmost attention to create an elegant, comforting, luxurious, and authentically Mexican environment.

Casita

Garden

The heated infinity pool allows you to literally swim among the tree tops while overlooking dramatic gardens, ponds, and fountains, while the spa offers a place for tranquil relaxation and rejuvenation. The adjacent outdoor loggia includes a comfortable seating and sunbathing area, a sound system, and a bar with refrigerator.

Beyond the pool and spa area and just over the Venetian bridge stands Casita el Cerrito's casita. The casita is a charming little home all in itself, with two queen bedrooms and a single twin bedroom just above, a living room, a small kitchen, and a breakfast patio. Like all the other bedrooms, the bedrooms in the casita lead out onto private terraces, and take full advantage of the exquisite outdoor landscape. The casita is ideal for those desiring an extra level of privacy and intimacy, while still being able to enjoy all of the amenities and services afforded those staying in the main villa.

The magic of Villa el Cerrito is brought to life by an extremely professional, friendly, and able staff trained to make your stay as pleasurable and fulfilling as it can possibly be. Villa el Cerrito employs a full staff, including a mayordomo (butler), a veladore (security/night watchman), one cocinero (chef/cook), two criadas (maids), and a jardinero (gardener).

Felipe, the home's mayordomo, manages the staff on a daily basis and serves as the primary contact for all your needs. Felipe is extremely pleasant, professional, and competent, and is happy to arrange dinner reservations, tours, trips, in-villa massages, manicures, pedicures, facial treatments, or practically anything else your heart desires.
